Baja California collects 70 tons of empty pesticide containers

The Mexican Secretariat of Agriculture and Rural Development (AGRICULTURA) collected 70 tons of empty pesticide containers during the Second Free Collection Day for Agrochemical Containers in Baja California. The initiative, part of the National Strategy for the Management of Empty Pesticide Containers, aims to promote responsible agricultural waste management and prevent soil and water contamination.

Of the total collected, 60 tons were gathered in San Quintín and 10 tons were retrieved from the Temporary Collection Center (CAT) in Mexicali. This effort is also integrated into the Justice Plan for Agricultural Workers.

During the event, the National Service for Agrifood Health, Safety and Quality (Senasica) awarded Agroquímicos Peninsulares a Certificate of Compliance with the Official Mexican Standard NOM-033-FITO-1995. This recognition honors the company’s adherence to phytosanitary specifications and its commitment to ethical trade, including preventing the re-packaging of products or the sale of expired and prohibited pesticides.
