Baja California Congress seeks wheat fund transparency

The Baja California Congress has approved an exhortation requesting the State Secretariat of Agriculture and Rural Development (SADER) to hold a working meeting regarding the distribution of an emergency fund for crystalline wheat producers in the Mexicali Valley.

The request follows dissatisfaction from the agricultural sector concerning the established support amounts and the criteria used for resource allocation. While the state government announced an extraordinary fund to mitigate losses from a difficult agricultural cycle caused by severe weather, the current operating rules provide 1,500 pesos per hectare. Producers have expressed disagreement, arguing that the amount should be higher and demanding greater transparency in how the funds are assigned.
