Baja California Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda launches Mexico City media tour over visa revocation

Baja California Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda traveled to Mexico City this week to give a series of media interviews and defend her position after her visa was revoked in May 2025. The governor, who had previously declined to speak publicly, said the meetings with intermediaries were conducted in a personal capacity and not on behalf of the state.

Ávila Olmeda’s media tour follows accusations from former Baja California governor Jaime Bonilla Valdez and the release of several audio recordings that allege she provided information to U.S. agencies. She emphasized her role chairing security tables that involve local corporations, federal authorities and the armed forces, and sought to clarify the circumstances surrounding the visa revocation and related controversies.
