Baja California Governor orders cabinet resignations ahead of 2027 elections

Baja California Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda has announced that approximately five state officials have approached her regarding their intentions to remain in office or resign to pursue candidacies in the 2027 elections. The Governor has requested that any officials intending to run for elective office resign by August 14 to prevent distractions within the administration and ensure the government remains focused on results during its final year.

Several officials have already departed the administration to seek candidacy, including former Secretary of Government Alfredo Álvarez, former Secretary of Welfare Netzahualcóyotl Jáuregui Santillán, and former Director of the Youth Institute Francisco Molina.

Separately, former Secretary General of Government Amador Rodríguez Lozano has leveled criticisms against the Governor, questioning her administration's concentration of power and the influence of her former husband, Carlos Torres. Rodríguez Lozano also raised concerns regarding the impact of previous visa revocations involving the Governor and Torres on the state's strategic relationship with the United States, particularly concerning border security and binational cooperation.
