Baja California officials resign ahead of election candidacy deadline

Several high-ranking officials in the Baja California state government have resigned ahead of an August 14 deadline set by Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda. The deadline requires officials seeking elective office to step down from their current positions.

Confirmed resignations include Social Inclusion Secretary Belinda Rodríguez Moreno, Labor and Social Welfare Secretary Alejandro Arregui Ibarra, Health Secretary Adrián Medina Amarillas, and the Director of the Baja California Tax Administration Service, Jesús García Castro. While specific roles for all are not yet finalized, reports suggest Medina Amarillas may seek a federal deputy seat, Arregui is returning to Ensenada, and García has been linked to a potential mayoral run in Tijuana.

Dr. José Antonio Serratos García, president of the civil association Grupo Unidos por Tijuana, expressed support for the Governor’s ultimatum. He argued that officials seeking office often become distracted from their public duties, using state resources for campaigning rather than serving citizens.
