Baja California launches ‘México Sabe a Mar’ fishing strategy
The Government of Baja California and the National Commission for Aquaculture and Fisheries (Conapesca) have launched the ‘México Sabe a Mar’ strategy in Ensenada. The initiative aims to promote sustainable fishing, increase the commercial and gastronomic value of regional seafood, and recognize the labor of fishing and aquaculture families.
Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda emphasized that fishing is a priority in the State Development Plan. She highlighted the creation of the Secretariat of Fisheries and Aquaculture, which has facilitated direct support programs such as ‘Pescando con el Corazón’ to improve food security and welfare for thousands of families. The state is also investing in infrastructure modernization and marine ecosystem conservation.
Rigoberto Salgado Vázquez, the national commissioner of Conapesca, noted that coordination between federal and state governments will improve fishing management and conditions for those dependent on the sector. Adhara Izette García García, president of CANAIPESCA, also noted the sector's role in modernizing processes and commercial promotion.
