Baja California Sur expands dengue prevention in Los Cabos and Comondú
The health department of Baja California Sur is increasing its response to active dengue transmission in the municipalities of Los Cabos and Comondú. Following a meeting between State Health Secretary Ana Luisa Guluarte Castro and José Alejandro Ávalos Bracho, director general of the National Center for Disease Prevention and Control (CENAPRECE), the state will receive additional federal support including extra health brigades, fumigation units, and insecticide supplies.
In addition to expanded fogging campaigns, the State Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks (COEPRIS) has begun inspecting businesses, such as tire shops, to eliminate mosquito breeding sites. The response also includes the distribution of rapid tests to medical units under IMSS-Bienestar, ISSSTE, and IMSS to improve case detection.
Health officials are also implementing a remote monitoring strategy for confirmed patients to identify potential complications. To date in 2026, authorities have fumigated over 67,000 hectares and conducted larval control in more than 87,000 homes across the state's five municipalities.
