Baja California Sur fumigates 23,000 hectares to prevent dengue

Baja California Sur has fumigated more than 23,000 hectares as part of an expanded campaign to prevent dengue. The efforts are primarily concentrated in La Paz and Los Cabos, which together account for 88 percent of the state’s confirmed dengue cases this year.

State Health Secretary Ana Luisa Guluarte Castro stated that the strategy includes fumigation, larvicide brigades to eliminate standing water, and the Wolbachia program, which releases mosquitoes carrying bacteria that limits their ability to transmit the virus. As of mid-September, the state has recorded 231 confirmed cases, a figure notably lower than in several neighboring states.
