Baja California Sur leads Mexico in tourism investment
Baja California Sur has emerged as Mexico’s leading destination for foreign direct investment in tourism, capturing $511.9 million during the first half of 2026. This figure represents 41.4% of the total national investment in the sector, with primary capital originating from the United States, Canada, and Spain.
Maribel Collins Sánchez, the Secretary of Tourism and Economy, noted that this influx of capital reflects high investor confidence in the region. The state government aims to manage this growth through a model that balances economic expansion with environmental protection and social responsibility.
To further diversify the local economy, the state is expanding its wellness tourism offerings. New initiatives include the Todos Santos Wellness Fest 2026, scheduled for November 6–8, and the Loreto Live Well Experience 2027, set for January 15–17. These events are part of a broader strategy to leverage the region's natural and cultural assets to attract health and lifestyle-oriented travelers.
