Baja California Sur PAN leader demands transparent homicide data

Rigo Mares, the state leader of the National Action Party (PAN) in Baja California Sur, has demanded that Governor Víctor Castro Cosío release verifiable homicide statistics to address concerns regarding data consistency.

The dispute follows comments from Senator Ricardo Anaya, who questioned how homicides are being reported in the state. While the state attorney general’s office reported 172 cases under a specific questioned category and 39 intentional homicides between January and August 2026, Mares argued that the public lacks a detailed breakdown.

Mares is calling for transparency regarding the classification of victims by municipality, month, and crime type. He specifically requested clarification on how missing persons who are later found dead are categorized within official statistics. The PAN has requested that the government publish the methodology used to report these figures to the National Public Security System.
