Baja California Sur ports closed to small vessels due to weather

Maritime authorities in Baja California Sur have ordered the closure of several ports to small vessels due to deteriorating weather conditions. In Loreto, the Port Captaincy suspended navigation for vessels under 500 gross tonnage starting Tuesday afternoon, citing winds of up to 20 knots and waves between 4 and 6 feet.

Similar restrictions were implemented in La Paz and Cabo San Lucas. In La Paz, authorities reported wind gusts reaching 30 knots and waves of three to five feet. In Los Cabos, the closure affects vessels under 500 gross tonnage due to northeast winds and potential thunderstorms. These measures aim to safeguard human life and maritime safety during unfavorable nautical conditions.

In response to the broader rainy and hurricane season, municipal authorities in La Paz have activated preventive measures. This includes identifying 20 temporary shelters and coordinating inter-institutional efforts to manage flood-prone areas through cleaning, desilting, and the construction of embankments to ensure community safety.
