Baja Portalegre 500: João Ferreira leads after first day

The 40th edition of the Baja Portalegre 500 is underway in Portugal, with João Ferreira and Filipe Palmeiro leading the automobile category in a Toyota Hilux EVO. Following the prologue and the first selective sector, Ferreira holds a 25.3-second lead over Luís Cidade and Valter Cardoso in a Can-Am.

Micael Simão leads the motorcycle category on a KTM, maintaining a 17.1-second advantage over Gustavo Gaudêncio. In the quad category, Tomás Paulo holds the top position. The competition, which is part of the FIA World Cup for Rally-Raid Trophies and the European Baja Cup, features hundreds of teams across various categories including SSV and Mini Baja.

The event continues through October 17, 2026, drawing international competitors and enthusiasts to the Alentejo region. Spectator zones, such as the Bemposta ZE8 area, have been established to allow the public to view the passage of vehicles at scheduled times.
