Bakary Signaté suspends political activities within Pastef

Bakary Signaté, a prominent political figure and former head of the Projects and Programs Unit at the Ministry of Finance, has announced the suspension of his political activities within the Pastef party. This decision marks a significant shift in the Netteboulou commune of the Tambacounda department, where Signaté had been a key supporter of Ousmane Sonko’s party since joining from the Alliance pour la République (APR) in August 2024.

In a public communiqué, Signaté cited a need for introspection due to what he described as a loss of political clarity and a sense of uncertainty within the party. He noted that the current political context presents a “persistent fog” and a “great blurring” that obscures his vision and inhibits his civic engagement.

Having contributed to several electoral victories for Pastef over the last two years, Signaté stated he is taking this pause to conduct an exhaustive evaluation of the political situation. He intends to address the press in the coming days to clarify his future political trajectory while emphasizing his commitment to the interests of Netteboulou.
