Başkent University students develop gait-based AI authentication
Students from Başkent University's Computer Engineering department have developed an artificial intelligence system called MicroID designed for biometric authentication through gait analysis.
Unlike traditional facial recognition or camera-based systems, MicroID uses 60 GHz microwave radar sensors to collect point cloud data of human movements. This allows the system to identify individuals by modeling their unique skeletal movement patterns without creating visual image recordings, addressing privacy and data security concerns. The technology is capable of operating in low light, dark environments, or when visual obstructions are present. According to student Betül Nuriye Koparmal, the system has achieved an accuracy rate of 85-90 percent.
