Baker City salt lick auction raises $16,000 for Parkinson’s research
The Great Salt Lick auction returned to Baker City on September 26, raising approximately $16,000 for Parkinson’s research at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU). Hosted at Churchill School, the event featured an auction of 25 unique salt licks, including pieces decorated with colored tile and glazed molds.
Organized by artist Whit Deschner, the event marks a return following a two-year hiatus. Over its 18-year history, the tradition has raised a total of $242,000 for research. While the recent turnout was smaller than the $42,000 raised in 2022, Deschner expressed satisfaction with the event and the community reunion it facilitated.
