Baker Mayfield faces contract impasse with Buccaneers

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield is facing a contract impasse with the franchise. According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, negotiations broke down because Mayfield is seeking long-term security that the Buccaneers were unwilling to provide. While the team offered a highly paid deal, it was reportedly limited to a two-year term with an average of approximately $50 million per year. Consequently, Mayfield has decided to focus on football through the 2026 season with the intention of testing free agency afterward.

In related roster news, former Buccaneers quarterback Kyle Trask is expected to sign with the Carolina Panthers. Trask, who served as a backup in Tampa Bay for four seasons, is expected to join Carolina following an injury to Haynes King. Trask previously worked under current Panthers coach Dave Canales during his tenure in Tampa Bay.
