Baker Mayfield reconciles with family and faces Buccaneers contract standoff

The conflict centered on allegations that over $12 million was misappropriated from personal accounts to various entities and investments managed by the firm, which was founded by Mayfield’s father, James. While a confidential settlement was reportedly reached earlier in 2024, Mayfield noted in a recent interview that he has reconnected with his family over the past few months.

Separately, Mayfield’s professional future with the Buccaneers remains a point of contention. According to ESPN insider Adam Schefter, contract negotiations have stalled not due to the total dollar amount, but because of the length of the proposed extension. While the team reportedly offered a two-year deal worth over $100 million, Mayfield sought a longer commitment, such as a four-year deal, to reflect his status as a franchise player. Negotiations are currently on hold until after the 2026 season.
