Tampa Bay Buccaneers extend Baker Mayfield with $165M deal

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have agreed to a three-year contract extension with quarterback Baker Mayfield, worth a reported $165 million. The deal averages approximately $55 million per year, making it the largest contract in the franchise's history.

The extension follows a period of tension between Mayfield and the organization. Earlier this summer, Mayfield expressed feeling ‘disrespected’ by initial offers and had set a deadline for negotiations to conclude before the start of training camp. Despite these disagreements, the team has signaled full confidence in Mayfield as their long-term leader.

Since joining the Buccaneers in 2023, Mayfield has recorded 95 passing touchdowns and over 12,000 passing yards in 51 starts. The new agreement keeps him under contract through the 2029 season. Buccaneers owner Joel Glazer and coach Todd Bowles both released statements praising Mayfield’s leadership, resilience, and competitive spirit.
