Baker Mayfield's Contract Talks Stall Ahead of Buccaneers Training Camp Deadline

Quarterback Baker Mayfield has set a self‑imposed deadline of July 28, the start of Tampa Bay Buccaneers training camp, to reach a new contract. He is reportedly seeking a deal worth $55‑60 million per year, but the Buccaneers’ front office has not come close to that figure. Mayfield enters the final year of his three‑year, $100 million contract, which includes $50 million in guarantees. Over the past two seasons he posted Pro Bowl‑level production and led the team to the playoffs, recording 3,693 passing yards, 26 touchdowns and 11 interceptions in 2025 despite extensive injuries on the offense. The Bucs missed the playoffs that year, finishing behind the Carolina Panthers in the NFC South. NFL insider Ian Rapoport said talks have been extensive but no agreement is in sight, making a new deal before the deadline unlikely.
