Bakery sectors in Egypt and Libya face government intervention over production costs

In Egypt, the Minister of Supply and Internal Trade, Sherif Farouk, has ordered the formation of a joint committee to review the demands of bakery owners. The committee is tasked with proposing executive solutions and delivering a comprehensive report within one month. The initiative aims to address production costs, regulatory frameworks, and the sustainability of the bread supply system to ensure uninterrupted service to citizens.

In Libya, the Ministry of Industry and Minerals is also addressing challenges within the bakery sector. Undersecretary Mustafa Al-Samo met with bakery syndicate officials to discuss operating costs and input prices. The discussions follow a period of criticism regarding bread shortages and rising prices, which have been driven by power outages, diesel shortages, and fluctuations in the black-market exchange rate for the US dollar.
