Baking soda technique removes burnt residue from pans and stove trays

Applying a generous layer of baking soda (bicarbonato de sódio) to burnt grease on cookware, then pouring boiling water over it, triggers a saponification reaction that softens the hardened film. After letting the mixture sit for 10–15 minutes on pans – or up to 30 minutes on stove‑top trays – the residue can be lifted with a soft sponge or nylon brush, eliminating the need for abrasive scrubbing.

The method works for most types of cookware but recommends extra care with non‑stick coatings, enamel surfaces and cast‑iron pans. Steel wool or harsh abrasives should be avoided to prevent damage, and the cookware should be rinsed and dried thoroughly after cleaning.
