Bako Motors launches first electric car exports to Germany

Tunisia’s electric‑vehicle startup Bako Motors shipped its inaugural convoy of cars to Germany, marking the first European certification for a Tunisian EV maker. The launch was opened by Trade Minister Samir Abid, while CEO Boubaker Siala highlighted that 20 vehicles were sent in the first batch and that the company aims to export 88 units this year, scaling to 800 by 2027. The Ministry of Trade’s external commerce director Dorra El Borji noted that the venture showcases Tunisia’s growing auto‑components sector, which comprises about 280 firms employing over 95,000 people and ranks the country second in Africa. Bako Motors integrates more than 40 % of its parts locally, working with Tunisian suppliers in design, textiles, batteries and wiring. The export is expected to boost the domestic supply chain and reinforce Tunisia’s push toward a greener, high‑tech economy.
