Bakso the Sumatran tiger to leave Disney's Animal Kingdom
Bakso, a two-year-old Sumatran tiger born at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, is scheduled to leave the park later this fall. The move is part of the Association of Zoos & Aquariums (AZA) Species Survival Plan, which aims to support the future of species in managed care.
As a Sumatran tiger, Bakso plays a vital role in conservation efforts for a species that is considered critically endangered, with fewer than 600 individuals remaining in the wild. As he enters adulthood, the move will allow him to potentially father cubs and contribute to the species' survival.
Bakso made his public debut on the Maharajah Jungle Trek in early 2025 after being born to his parents, Sohni and Conrad, in September 2024. While Disney has not yet announced his specific destination or the exact date of his departure, guests can still visit him at Animal Kingdom in the interim.
