Baku International Book Fair hosts book signing and sparks translation controversy
The 12th Baku International Book Fair at the Baku Expo Center featured a book signing for Sabir Rustamkhanli, a prominent Azerbaijani poet and member of parliament. His new book, ‘From the Name of Azerbaijan...’, published by Azernashr, contains memoirs and observations from his travels abroad, focusing on the promotion of Azerbaijani truths and the strengthening of the Turkic world.
Separately, Esad Jahangir, head of the Azerbaijan Writers Union Center for Literary Translation and Literary Relations, criticized the fair organizers for failing to invite the translation center. Jahangir noted that the center has recently translated approximately ten books from various languages, including Egyptian, European, Turkish, Russian, Georgian, and Central Asian languages, into Azerbaijani. He expressed concern that neglecting translation work in a globalized world reflects a lack of awareness regarding the literary process.
