Baku man sentenced for domestic abuse and torture

A man in Baku has been sentenced to prison for the repeated physical and psychological abuse of his partner. The 37-year-old defendant, identified as Elchin Gambarov, was found guilty of inflicting injuries on his partner, Gunay, following a dispute regarding her attending a birthday party without permission.

According to the indictment, the assaults included punches and kicks to the head and body, as well as the use of an iron pan to strike the victim's hands and thighs. The violence was reportedly motivated by jealousy and the victim's attempts to end the relationship.

While the defendant denied the allegations during questioning, the court sentenced him to 1 year, 7 months, and 26 days of imprisonment under articles of the Criminal Code related to intentional harm to health and torture. Despite the charges, the victim stated she did not wish to press charges and expressed a desire to reconcile with the defendant after his release.
