Baladna dairy project in Algeria to receive first US cows in November
The Baladna El Djazair dairy project in Adrar, Algeria, is transitioning from infrastructure preparation to active production. The first herd of dairy cows, imported from the United States, is scheduled to arrive on November 25.
This massive integrated farming project is a joint venture between the Qatari-based Baladna Group (51%) and Algeria’s National Investment Fund (49%). Representing a total investment of $3.5 billion, the complex spans over 219,000 hectares and aims to eventually house a herd of 270,000 cows.
The facility is designed for large-scale production, targeting an annual capacity of 1.7 billion liters of milk and 193,000 tonnes of milk powder, with powder production expected by the end of 2027. Current site preparations include completed water systems, irrigation, housing, and climate control. The project has already utilized over 1.6 million work hours and employs thousands of workers to manage the logistics and infrastructure.
