Balaídos Stadium expansion nears milestone in Vigo

Construction of the new ‘Gol’ stand at Balaídos Stadium in Vigo is progressing rapidly, with the concrete structure having reached its maximum height in approximately two-thirds of the section. The project, which involves an investment of 25 million euros with participation from the Vigo City Council and the Pontevedra Provincial Council, aims to add 7,000 seats, bringing the stadium's total capacity to over 31,000 spectators.

Work is scheduled to begin installing the blue exterior cladding and the metal mesh for the roof within the coming week. Local authorities, including Mayor Abel Caballero, expressed the goal of having the stand ready for use by the weekend of January 2 and 3, coinciding with the return of the Galician derby between Celta and Deportivo de La Coruña after an eight-year absence.

The completion of this stand will leave the stadium with three fully renovated stands—Marcador, Río, and Gol—as part of the preparations for the 2030 World Cup. Future plans include the expansion of the Tribuna stand to further enhance the venue's capacity.
