Balaguer honors writer Josep Vallverdú at Correllengua closing
The Correllengua 2026 event concluded in Balaguer with a tribute to the writer Josep Vallverdú. The ceremony took place at the Cementiri Vell, where the author's remains are located.
Led by journalist Francesc Canosa, the event featured musical performances by Emma and Helena Campàs, including pieces such as Pau Casals’ ‘El cant dels ocells’. Members of Casal Pere III participated in readings focused on Vallverdú’s life, his literary work, and his commitment to the defense and normalization of the Catalan language.
A symbolic floral offering was made to the family tomb, consisting of laurel, rosemary, everlasting flowers, and wheat spikes. These elements were chosen to represent honor, memory, the permanence of his work, and his connection to the Ponent region. The ceremony ended with the reading of a poem by Vallverdú and a performance of ‘Els Segadors’ much to the theme of defending Catalan culture.
