Russia attacks ships near Odessa, kills three civilians in Balaklia, Ukraine

Russia Odessa Balaklia cargo ships civilian deaths

The Russian Defence Ministry said its forces struck two cargo ships near the Ukrainian port of Odessa in the Black Sea, claiming the vessels were carrying military material. Russian officials also reported hitting three ships in the Black Sea on the same day. At the same time, Russian drone strikes hit agricultural storage facilities in the town of Balaklia, Kharkiv region, causing a fire but no immediate casualties.

Separate drone attacks on residential houses in Balaklia killed three civilians – a woman in the first strike and a man and a woman in a second strike – and sparked fires that required rescue crews. The incidents were reported by Vitally Karabanyov, head of Balaklia’s military administration, via Telegram. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky pledged assistance to farmers affected by the attacks. Ukraine has also stepped up its own strikes on Russian‑held territory, targeting Wildberries facilities and energy infrastructure.
