Balaton region hit by train delays and beach safety incidents
A large tree fell on a high‑voltage line along the southern shore of Lake Balaton, forcing MÁV to suspend train service between Balatonmáriafürdő and Balatonszentgyörgy on Sunday. Replacement buses were deployed on the affected stations and travelers were urged to check updated timetables.
During the same weekend, rescue teams on the lake dealt with several emergencies, including a woman stranded after drifting from an inflatable platform, a missing 14‑year‑old boy rescued near Balatonszemes, and divers removing a rusty barbed‑wire coil from a beach trench that posed a danger to swimmers. The water‑rescue service also responded to medical incidents on shore.
