Balatro success drives PlayStack investment and developer updates

The success of the poker-inspired roguelike deck-builder Balatro has significantly impacted its publisher, PlayStack. CEO Harvey Elliott stated that the game's commercial and critical success has provided the company with increased confidence to fund new independent projects and explore diverse creative proposals. Following its acquisition by Integrated Media Company for £125 million in May, PlayStack aims to maintain a varied catalog rather than focusing on a single genre, targeting approximately eight releases this year.

Meanwhile, the game's developer, LocalThunk, has addressed the delay of the long-awaited update 1.1. After missing a projected 2025 release window, the solo developer expressed regret for providing a specific timeline, citing burnout following the mobile release. LocalThunk confirmed that work on the update is ongoing but stated that no concrete release window will be provided until the content is finalized to avoid releasing a rushed or half-baked product.
