Balcanica film explores migration through the journey of Afghan musicians

The film ‘Balcanica’, the directorial debut of Nicola Sorcinelli, explores the human realities of migration along the Balkan route. Set against the backdrop of music being banned in Afghanistan by the Taliban, the story follows Nazar, an orchestra conductor, and his son Jalil, a tuba player, as they attempt to reach Italy to continue their musical lives.

During their journey, they encounter Greta, an Italian doctor on a humanitarian mission, played by Matilda De Angelis. The film focuses on the physical and emotional exhaustion of the characters and the connections formed between individuals from vastly different worlds.

Following its presentation at the Venice Film Festival, the film is set for distribution in Italian theaters by Fandango. Recent promotional events have included appearances by Sorcinelli and remote connections with De Angelis to discuss the production and its themes.
