Balchik rescue operation saves semi-wild goat trapped in rocks

A semi-wild goat was successfully rescued after spending more than 25 days trapped in a narrow rocky crevice near the Momchil villa zone in Balchik, Bulgaria. During its confinement, the animal had no access to water and survived by consuming sparse vegetation and digging for roots to extract moisture.

The rescue operation was organized by Dr. Rusko Petrov from the Green Balkans Wildlife Rescue Center and involved a coordinated team of volunteers, climbers, and veterinary medicine students from Thracian University. The mission faced significant challenges due to the steep, sandy, and crumbly terrain, which required the use of high-clearance vehicles and precise rope work by experienced climbers.

The goat is part of a semi-wild herd that established itself in the rocky area near Balchik approximately two to three years ago, following the death of a local resident who had left her livestock free. The animal was recovered alive and in relatively good condition.
