Bald eagle Jackie dies after intensive medical care in California

Jackie, a famous bald eagle known for her presence on the Big Bear Valley nature livestreams, has died following three weeks of intensive medical care at the Ojai Raptor Center in California.

Jackie was discovered grounded on July 18 near Big Bear Lake, appearing sick and having been attacked by other eagles. During her treatment, medical staff identified several severe conditions, including regenerative anemia, thrombosis in her wing and kidney, and abnormalities in her liver and lungs. Despite receiving oxygen therapy, around-the-clock monitoring, and a blood transfusion from another eagle, her condition continued to deteriorate.

Jackie had been a fixture of the Big Bear area for at least 15 years. Since 2015, millions of viewers worldwide have followed her life and her mate, Shadow, via live nest cameras. The Ojai Raptor Center stated that all medical decisions were guided by her welfare and available evidence.
