Bald eagle Jackie in critical condition at Ojai Raptor Center

Jackie, a well-known bald eagle from Big Bear Lake, is in critical and unstable condition while undergoing treatment at the Ojai Raptor Center. The eagle was found injured in San Bernardino County on July 17 following an altercation with two juvenile eagles.

Veterinary teams are treating Jackie for anemia of unknown origin. While her packed cell volume (PCV) recently rose slightly from below 6% to 9%, her condition remains extremely serious. Medical staff are providing oxygen therapy and supportive care, and are awaiting results from a recent contrast CT scan and bone marrow biopsy to determine the cause of her dangerously low red blood cell levels.

Jackie, who shares a nest with her partner Shadow, has gained significant online following. Her status is being monitored by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.
