Bald Eagle Jackie Remains Stable While Recovering from Anemia at Ojai Raptor Center

Jackie, a bald eagle rescued near Big Bear Lake in California, continues to recover at the Ojai Raptor Center. Veterinarians report that she remains stable but is still very sick, with ongoing anemia reflected in a packed cell volume (PCV) of 17%, short of the desired 30% level. Bloodwork shows elevated white‑cell counts, indicating inflammation, stress or possible infection. The eagle has received a life‑saving blood transfusion from another eagle, Spirit, and is undergoing extensive diagnostic testing, including heavy‑metal screening, toxicology, radiographs and a planned CT scan. Specialists from across the United States are consulting on the case, but the underlying cause of her illness remains unknown. Recovery is expected to take weeks or months, and the rehabilitation team continues to monitor her condition closely.
