Bald Eagle Jackie Shows Signs of Recovery at Ojai Raptor Center
Jackie, one half of the famed bald eagle pair that nests near Big Bear Lake, California, was found on the ground after a fight with two younger eagles. Veterinarians at the Ojai Raptor Center diagnosed severe anemia and kidney inflammation, placing her in intensive care and labeling her condition as critical but stable.
After receiving a blood transfusion, Jackie began eating on her own and displayed increased energy and alertness. Her packed cell volume rose from 8% to 16% over a week, an encouraging improvement though still below normal. The wildlife team continues daily monitoring and prophylactic treatments while seeking a definitive cause for her illness.
