Bald Eagle Jackie’s Anemia Worsens in Big Bear, California

Jackie, the internet‑famous bald eagle that nests in Big Bear Valley, California, has experienced a setback in her treatment for anemia. Her packed cell volume has fallen to 13%, indicating the condition has worsened over the past two days.

The Ojai Raptor Center’s veterinary team is responding with additional advanced diagnostic testing and expedited laboratory work to determine the next steps. Jackie was rescued after being found on the ground near Dana Point Park in July and previously received a life‑saving blood transfusion from another female eagle, Spirit, at CALM Zoo in Bakersfield. Officials say they will continue to update the public as new information becomes available.
