Bald eagle Jackie's remains spark debate over tribal transfer

The death of Jackie, a famous bald eagle from the Big Bear Valley nest livestream, has sparked a debate among her millions of global followers regarding the handling of her remains.

Under current U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service policy, Jackie is slated to be sent to the National Eagle Repository. This facility provides eagle feathers, parts, and whole bodies to members of federally recognized Native American tribes for religious use.

While the nonprofit managing the livestream supports this tribal transfer, some fans have launched petitions to seek alternative arrangements. These supporters suggest Jackie could be taxidermied for educational or memorial purposes in her natal habitat, rather than being distributed through the repository.
