Bald eagle released in North Saanich after rehabilitation

A juvenile bald eagle was released into the wild in North Saanich following an extensive rehabilitation process. The bird was originally discovered in Sidney in late May, where residents found her unable to fly or eat.

Veterinarians determined the eagle was suffering from a blood infection that caused malnutrition and fatigue. Her recovery involved a collaborative effort across Vancouver Island, including medical care and flight exercises at the North Island Wildlife Recovery Centre in Errington. Rescuer Allan Marshall noted that over 75 people contributed to the bird's care, involving organizations such as the Raptor Rescue Society and BC Ferries.
