Bald Range wildfire destroys homes and displaces pets in British Columbia
A fast-moving wildfire known as the Bald Range fire destroyed or damaged approximately 150 structures in the Summerland area of British Columbia, including the community of Faulder.
During the emergency evacuation on August 7, Amanda Roberts and her son were forced to abandon their home and vehicle. While a pet ball python did not survive the fire, a tarantula named Velky Pavouk and a salamander named Mongo survived for five days inside an abandoned vehicle. The animals were eventually rescued by an RCMP officer and have since been reunited with their owners.
Many other residents in the region are still searching for missing pets, including cats, dogs, and chickens, as community members use social media and local efforts to locate animals displaced by the blaze.
