Bald Range wildfire prompts area restriction west of Summerland

The BC Wildfire Service has issued an area restriction order for the Bald Range wildfire, located approximately 15 kilometres west of Summerland. The order is set to take effect at 12 p.m. on August 29 and will remain in place until September 12, 2026, or until the order is rescinded. The restriction aims to ensure firefighter safety and prevent public interference with suppression operations.

Discovered on August 7, the wildfire spread rapidly due to hot, dry, and windy conditions. The blaze has burned approximately 25,191 hectares and destroyed about 150 structures. The fire's impact led to the evacuation of an estimated 20,000 people, including the entire community of Summerland. The BC Wildfire Service currently classifies the wildfire as 'Being Held'.
