British Columbia has lifted its provincial state of emergency following a period of intense wildfire activity. The decision, made on the advice of emergency officials, follows the Bald Range wildfire which forced the evacuation of over 20,000 people and resulted in one death. While the state of emergency has ended, officials noted that many evacuation orders and alerts remain in place across the province.

In the Okanagan region, the Bradley Creek wildfire is currently under control at 2,658 hectares. However, the impact remains significant, with 248 homes still under evacuation orders within the Okanagan Indian Band. The fire is estimated to have destroyed approximately 230 homes.

In the Fraser Valley, the Fraser Valley Regional District has rescinded evacuation orders for the Hell’s Gate area, stating that the risk to life and property has sufficiently subsided. Meanwhile, local leaders in Summerland are encouraging tourists to visit the Okanagan to support local businesses as the region recovers from the recent destruction.
