Balearic Government announces housing for healthcare and education workers
Balearic President Marga Prohens has announced new housing initiatives to address recruitment and retention challenges for essential workers in Ibiza and Formentera. The plan includes the promotion of 80 homes for healthcare professionals near the Can Misses Hospital, as part of a larger 245-unit public housing project in the area.
To support the education sector, the government is promoting 40 homes specifically for teachers relocated to Formentera. This measure complements existing financial incentives, such as difficulty-of-coverage supplements of 300 euros in Ibiza and Menorca, and 400 euros in Formentera. Prohens emphasized that improving living conditions is vital for staff stability and intends to negotiate new educational commitments regarding teacher mobility and housing.
Additionally, Prohens highlighted improvements in medical staffing, noting that the number of medical professionals in the Pitiusas islands has increased by 44 over three years. Specifically, the oncology department at Can Misses has grown from one specialist to five, with plans to hire a sixth.
