Judicial rulings issue prison sentences for sexual assault and violence in multiple regions
Various judicial rulings across Latin America and Spain have resulted in significant prison sentences for sexual assault and violence.
In Peru, a teacher received 35 years in prison for the sexual abuse of an 11-year-old student in Capaya. In Spain, the Audiencia Provincial de Castelló sentenced a 28-year-old man to six years for the sexual assault of a 17-year-old girl, including a requirement to pay 5,000 euros in damages.
In Chile, a man in La Unión was sentenced to over 13 years in prison for repeated sexual assaults against his former partner and illegal possession of a firearm.
In Argentina, a man in Tinogasta remains in custody facing accusations of unlawful imprisonment and arson against his sister's home. Additionally, the Balearic High Court in Spain upheld a life sentence for a mother who abandoned her newborn in a waste container in Mallorca.
