Balearic Islands allocates 350,000 euros for Venezuela earthquake relief
The Government of the Balearic Islands has announced an extraordinary donation of 350,000 euros to support humanitarian relief efforts in Venezuela following devastating earthquakes. The funds will be distributed among four organizations operating on the ground: Cáritas Diocesana de Mallorca, the Spanish Red Cross, Doctors of the World, and Pharmacists in Solidarity.
The aid is intended to address urgent needs for vulnerable populations, including food security, access to safe drinking water, sanitation, hygiene, medical care, housing, and psychosocial support. Specifically, Cáritas Diocesana de Mallorca will focus on the Falcón and Yaracuy states, while the Spanish Red Cross will prioritize assistance in La Guaira and Greater Caracas. Doctors of the World will operate in Sucre, Táchira, Apure, La Guaira, and Miranda.
Antònia Maria Estarellas, the Minister of Presidency and Cooperation, stated that while the government could not provide immediate first-response aid due to distance, this funding supports long-term projects to help those in complex situations. This contribution is separate from the 9 million euros the regional government allocates annually to international cooperation projects.
