Balearic Islands anti‑tourism protest draws political criticism

Balearic Islands candidate Rosario Sánchez of the PSIB announced that a protest against mass tourism scheduled for Sunday will demonstrate public rejection of the regional government led by Marga Prohens. Sánchez criticised the administration for what she described as a “direction contrary” to residents’ interests, citing inadequate housing policies, environmental concerns, and the perceived pressure of holiday kiosks on beaches. She pledged to promote affordable housing, curb speculative real‑estate activity, diversify the islands’ economy, and increase investment in innovation and public services.

Another commentary claimed the protest was organised by a criminal group, allegedly backed by former governing parties, and dismissed claims of tourism saturation.
