Balearic Islands celebrate local musical and historical heritage

Cultural events in the Balearic Islands are highlighting local musical and historical legacies. In Mallorca, musicologist Bàrbara Duran is presenting the book ‘Cantar al Pla de Mallorca. 50 anys de la Coral de Sant Joan’, which commemorates the 50-year trajectory of the Sant Joan Choir. Duran notes that choral groups have served as vital informal learning environments for musical knowledge and community bonding on the island.

In Ibiza, the musical and theatrical production ‘Camins d’Història’ was performed in Sant Antoni to honor the legacy of Joan Marí Cardona. The show, featuring the Cor de Sant Josep directed by Jordi Martí, uses traditional melodies and theatrical elements to portray the life of the historian, professor, and former president of the Institut d’Estudis Eivissencs.
