Balearic Islands criminal proceedings see slight decline in 2025
The Prosecutor's Office reported that criminal proceedings in the Balearic Islands saw a slight decrease in 2025, falling to 51,067 cases from 52,132 in 2024. Despite this 2% decline in total cases, the number of pending matters increased by 10% by the end of the year.
Direct investigations initiated by the Prosecutor's Office grew by nearly 20%, rising from 314 to 374. Most of these stemmed from complaints filed by administrations, which increased from 126 to 192 cases, while complaints from individuals rose from 136 to 144.
Regarding precautionary measures, requests for provisional prison granted at the request of the prosecution rose by 6.2%, totaling 499 in 2025 compared to 470 in 2024. Additionally, labor law procedures concerning the protection of fundamental rights saw a significant increase of over 30%, rising from 661 to 865 cases.
