Balearic Islands implement tourism de-seasonalization strategies
Authorities in the Balearic Islands are implementing strategies to de-seasonalize tourism and diversify visitor profiles.
The Consell de Mallorca has identified the United Arab Emirates, Japan, the United States, and Italy as strategic markets. Tourism Minister Guillem Ginard and Director Tomeu Ferragut plan to meet with Turespaña officials in Zaragoza to discuss an approach focused on attracting high-value visitors during the low season. The goal is to move toward a more responsible and sustainable model through institutional collaboration and trend analysis.
Similarly, the Consell de Formentera has introduced a strategic marketing plan to increase occupancy during May and October. This initiative focuses on diversifying the island's offerings through hiking, sports, gastronomy, culture, and family tourism. The plan includes updating digital resources, improving access to local directories, and establishing common criteria to evaluate the impact of tourism events on the local economy and landscape.
